VIDEO: Pensioner Takes the (Parking) Law(s) Into his own Hands

In what looks like a low budget recreation of Marvin Heemeyer's notorious bulldozer rampage through a small Colorado town, an 83yo pensioner in the UK has been caught on CCTV ramming two other vehicles out of the way with his Peugeot after their driver's imprudently parked them in front of his garage.


The Telegraph newspaper reports that the Bristol resident, Ronald Pemberton, was taken to court over the matter and found guilty by the Bristol Magistrates Court. Nicholas Rowland, the Court Recorder, banned Pemberton from driving for 12 months and order he pay over £1,900 in fines, court costs and compensation.

Recorder Rowland had this to say to Mr. Pemberton after delivering his verdict:

"It is an expensive lesson for you. I hope you will think long and hard before you do anything like this again. No doubt you were severely irritated with the long-existing parking problem. It's very sad to see somebody of your age in court at all but I'm afraid you can't go taking the law into your own hands."

Sarah Regan, the prosecuting lawyer, added:

"The way you deal with it is to leave a note on the windscreen and have a word when [the drivers] come back. You don't use your car to move it."

Mr. Pemberton had rented the garage, located near his home and across from a local school, for the past twenty years. His lawyer argued that he had never had problems with the police, and it was only after he grew increasingly frustrated by people parking in front of his garage that he took this drastic course of action.

 If there's one manufacturer that every motoring enthusiast adores, it's Ferrari. And from the mid to late '80s, the king of wall poster exotics was the make's epic flat-12 engined Testarossa.

So what does a budding Ferrarista do in the late '80s? Well, you can't buy a Testarossa, as the thing costs US$180,000 or more than the median house price at the time. You could buy a Chevy Corvette for a lot less, though really that's just admitting that you're not as rich or cultured as the guy with the Mercedes-Benz 450 SL.

So why not go for something that's home grown but with an exotic edge? No, not a De Tomaso Longchamp; I'm talking about something that's really home grown. Home built, even. A Brillante Vendetta!

According to the seller, California based Classic International began converting C4 Corvettes into the Testarossa-lookalike "Brillante Vendetta" in the late '80s. The seller bought this particular example new for US$70,000 in 1989 and has owned it ever since. To put that into perspective, a new C4 Corvette would set you back US$32,000 in those days.



With just 15,000 miles on the odometer, all relevant paper work and the promise that it has been regularly serviced, this Italian impersonator comes with a 5.7 L V8, auto tranny, full grain Italian leather interior and inlaid burl wood on the dashboard. Couple that with power everything, climate control, steering wheel mounted controls and even one of those awesome, car phones from the early '90s and you've got yourself...well, something, that's for sure. Finished in Ferrari's trademark red with black soft top and clip on red hard top, a recent insurance appraisal valued the car at an alleged US$35,000.

So what's the verdict?

Well, it looks pretty good for what it is. Yes, Classic International was a little ambitious trying to recreate a Testarossa instead of something simpler like a Mondial and the interior looks a bit more kit car that superstar. And there's the fact that for a few thousand more than the US$21,900 asking price you could pick up an actual, second hand Ferrari or even an immaculate C4 Corvette.

Top 10 List with the Most Congested Cities and Freeways in North America

With the holiday season upon us, North American cities are bound to experience increased traffic, as most residents will increase the use of their car during the merriest time of the year. Navteq, a Chicago-based provider of electronic maps, traffic and location data company has issued a Top 10 list with the most congested cities and freeways in North America.

Not surprisingly, New York takes the top spot in both lists, having the worst traffic inside the city and the slowest freeways in terms of average rush hour speed. So, be sure to avoid the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and the New York – Washington BRG EB 3 and New York – Washington BRG WB 7 freeways.

Other overly congested freeways are to be found in Montreal, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Washington D.C. took second place for its choked inner city traffic, probably due to all those commuting lobbyists, followed by San Francisco. Los Angeles placed in the middle of the pack, while Houston comes in last. Before some start pointing guns fingers at me, Texans should be aware that being last in this list is actually a good thing.

FAIL: 2 Fast, 2 Furious Lancer Evo VII Breaks Free Of Dyno In Peurto Rico [Video]

Dynamometers, or dynos for short, are a useful tool in any racer’s arsenal. By applying some basic physical principles, a dyno can calculate the amount of horsepower and torque being transferred from the wheels to the track, without ever needing to leave the safety of the garage.
So here’s the scoop (according to the posters): some students at Mech-Tech College in Ponce, Puerto Rico were putting a Lancer Evolution VII through its paces on the school’s dyno, when disaster struck. Everything seems normal until 16 seconds in, when the Lancer careens to the left and slides off. Of course, it was all captured on video for our edification.

According to the EvolutionM forum, the vehicle was improperly strapped down. It has something to do with the fitting of a Blow Off Valve (BOV) dump tube which changes the way the vehicle behaves both on the track...and on the dyno. Of course, nobody seems to have taken this into account when tying the Evo down.
